Abstinence

Catholics who have celebrated their 14th birthday are bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and each Friday of Lent.

Fasting

Catholics who have celebrated their 18th birthday, in addition to abstaining from meat, should fast - that is eat only one full meal on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.  Smaller quantities of food may be taken at two other meals, but no food should be consumed at other times during those two days.  The obligation of fasting ceases with the celebration of one's 59th birthday.

Lent and Faith:

Lent is a great time to study the Faith on a new and Adult level.  It is important to grow spiritually and intellectually.  There are many good books for sale.  Check with at your parish to see what they have available.

Also check with your parish for special meetings geared toward expanding your knowledge of your Faith.  Many parishes have Parish Missions during Lent, these can be very rewarding.

Visit the Stations of the Cross

This prayer, which has special meaning during the Lenten and Easter Season, is always rewarding.
